Chengdu, located in the central part of Sichuan Province, is the capital and sub provincial city of Sichuan Province. It is one of the first national historical and cultural cities in China and an important central city in the southwest region. Chengdu is an important birthplace of ancient Shu civilization and the center of the “Land of Abundance”. It has a rare historical feature in the world, with a city site that has not been relocated for 3000 years and a city name that has not been changed for 2500 years. In 316 BC, Qin conquered Shu and established Shu Commandery and Chengdu County. In 311 BC, the reconstruction of city walls modeled after the Qin system marked the beginning of documented urban planning and construction, which has lasted for over 2300 years. Due to the development of the brocade industry in the Han Dynasty and the establishment of specialized brocade officials for management, it was known as “Jinguan City” and “Jincheng”. During the Later Shu period of the Five Dynasties, hibiscus was widely planted, hence it was also known as “Furong City” or “Rongcheng”, abbreviated as “Rong”. The Municipal Preparatory Office was established in 1921 and the city was officially established in 1928.
